Path to Success

"When we lose it’s just a game!
When we win we shout our name!”
The history and success of soccer in South Australia and across the nation have been built on the strength and resilience of immigrant communities, who have formed clubs and associations to play our great game. Ghan United Football Club is a reflection of this legacy.
Our journey has not been without challenges. Acceptance within our community has faced obstacles, just as gaining recognition in the soccer community has required time and effort. However, Ghan’s results speak for themselves—not only on the field, where we have excelled and earned the respect of our opponents, but also through the ways our presence has fostered acceptance, social inclusion, and hope in our region.
Ghan United Football Club has rapidly risen through the ranks of the SA Amateur League (SAASL), climbing from Division 5 to Division 1 in Sunday League by 2012. In the 2019 season, we solidified our position in the SAASL top division and reached the Semi-Finals of the Amateur League Challenge Cup with our Reserves team. Despite the disruptions of the 2020 ‘COVID’ season, we continued to grow, finishing third in our group before going on to win the Sunday Presidents’ Shield and the Champion of Champions Shield against USC Lion. Our most recent triumph came in 2022 when we claimed the MASA Unity Cup.
Our women’s team is also developing well, with one of our inaugural players earning selection for the Afghanistan National Women’s Under-23 team. Our junior teams have shown strong performances, and football at Ghan provides many benefits for children in our community—extending beyond active participation in sport to fostering personal growth, teamwork, and social inclusion. This commitment is a fundamental part of Ghan Kilburn City’s vision for the future.
